The Homework Fairy Godmother – that’s me!

Hello!

*waves frantically from the Homework Fairy Godmother Hideout in Yorkshire*

My name’s Sharon and I’m passionate about helping parents help their kids get the most out of learning in Junior School – that’s Key Stage 2, Year 3 to Year 6.

I’m not a teacher!  But I have worked in a school as both a general and specialist teaching assistant.  I worked in class helping students of all abilities, as well as supporting students with additional needs in 1:1 or small group tutoring for reading, maths, and handwriting.  I also taught small groups supporting children working towards their Year 6 SATs and I’ve been trained to help children with dyslexia.  I’m now working as a private tutor for kids in Key Stage 2 of ALL abilities – and I love to make learning as fun as possible!

I’m also a parent of two children, so I know what it’s like to feel a little confused when your kids come home and say, “We did chunking today in maths!” or “My literacy target is to use onomatopoeia and alliteration in my narrative poem this week!”  It’s very easy to feel intimidated by the differences in teaching today compared to when we were in school, and that’s where I come in!

So join me for handy hints to understand what and how your children are being taught at school, how you can help them, and ways to make it fun!
